Tourism revitalization
and governance plan 2019

The municipalities that make up “La Canal de Navarrés” (Anna, Bicorp, Bolbaite, Chella, Estubeny, Navarrés, Millares and Quesa) make up an inland area very close to Xátiva and Valencia. A territory of contrasts bathed by numerous tributaries of the Júcar river that has always known how to offer its riches to our visitors. A land marked by history, evidenced by its cultural, historical and natural heritage, symbols of the border character of this space between the interior and the coast.

With an extension of 709.3 square kilometers and a population of 11,000 inhabitants, the set of these eight municipalities stands out for the diversity and attractiveness of its resources. An enclave between holm oaks, pine forests and reed beds, with the environmental wealth that the “Macizo del Caroig” and the Fraile, Escalona, Cazuma and Sellent rivers offer us, where we can taste a tasty gastronomy, based on rice, gazpacho and its irresistible sweets, all of them made from native products such as honey and olive oil, while we delve into the friendly and welcoming culture of its towns and people. The Plans for Revitalization and Governance of Tourist Destinations in the Valencian Community are an initiative of the Generalitat, implemented through the Valencian Tourism Agency in collaboration with the provincial councils, other local administrations and private entities.

Its purpose is the innovation, modernization, promotion and consolidation of Valencian tourism products based on the territory, meeting criteria to improve competitiveness, sustainability and socio-territorial rebalancing. With a budget of 300,000 euros, the Tourism Governance and Revitalization Plan was born with the firm purpose of consolidating the 8 inland municipalities of the “Canal de Navarrés” region as a quality specialized tourist destination with its own uniqueness and a diversified offer. The following projects are financed in equal parts by Turisme Comunitat Valenciana, Tourism Board of the Diputación de Valencia and the “Mancomunidad de la Canal de Navarrés”.
This project will improve the tourist condition of these municipalities, putting in value new resources that diversify the economic activity of the territory and involving the private sector with the creation of new establishments. This first year 2019, bases its strategy on four fundamental keys: a multicultural territory, the great wealth of heritage, an interior tourist model complementary to that of sun and beach and the geostrategic situation of this region, with the proximity of the coast, the natural environment of the “Macizo del Caroig”, the levantine rock art World Heritage by UNESCO.
