Bolbaite

Bolbaite River, recreational area and Gorgo Cadena

The Sellent River as it passes through Bolbaite forms one of the main attractions of the town and the region. The ravine of Bolbaite or Sellent River, which originates in the Rambla Marisca, divides the urban area into two halves (El Lugar and La Peña) connected by two bridges. This creates a beautiful landscape, where the surrounding nature, historical heritage, and spectacular panoramic views come together. From either of the bridges crossing the river, visitors can delight in observing the ducks, geese, and large carp inhabiting the river pools.

The recreational area and bathing area of the Sellent River, also known as L’Assut, due to the small retaining wall that contains the waters, is a tranquil spot where visitors can swim. It is nestled between limestone cliffs eroded by the river and is flanked at the top by the Castle-Palace and the tobacco drying sheds. The waters of this small lake, with fresh and crystal-clear waters, are fed by a small waterfall that collects the excess water from the Acequia de la Huerta Arriba.

A walk upstream will take you to the Gorgo de la Cadena (from Valencian gorg), crossing the picturesque and iconic wooden bridge that presides over the area. Before that, you will find a small spring protected by a rock shelter and, immediately after, the Gorgo Caracol. The Gorgo de la Cadena is a pool of 100 meters excavated in the limestone by the waters of the Sellent River, which flows into a submerged cave, only suitable for those initiated in speleology. At this point, crossed by the old stone bridge of the CV-580, the ravine of Bolbaite makes a great leap that separates the upper and lower parts of the Canal de Navarrés.

The surroundings and bathing area of the Sellent River or Bolbaite have acquired the tourist category of a continental beach. It is a space that has parking, picnic areas, and other services required for family tourism.
