Municipal Museum ‘Alberto Hernández and Mercedes Rubio’

Museum dedicated to local artists and where cultural exhibitions are held.

Mercedes Rubio bequeathed in her will, to her nieces, the money to build a museum in Quesa that would preserve the work of Alberto Hernández and herself. The City Council built this museum in the year 2000 with the bequeathed money and with European funds; however, it neither accepted nor directly managed the museum, as explicitly specified in the bequest, until the year 2011 when it accepted it.

Mr. Alberto Hernández was born in Sanzoles, province of Zamora, on August 7, 1910, and Ms. Mercedes Rubio was born in Quesa on August 7, 1916. They resided in Barcelona practically all their lives. The exhibitions of the works of both, and especially that of Alberto Hernández, have been very important and have toured many halls and museums around the world. From 1929 in Zamora, 1933 in Santander, 1934 in Oviedo and Barcelona (Rovira Hall) 1951. From 1941 to 1973, all his work was acquired exclusively by a group of American
