On Quesa Castle Hill, with its beautiful views over the old quarter, stands a small and simple building with a rectangular floor plan, walls of exposed brick and a tiled bell-shaped dome crowned by an ironwork cross. This is the Ermita del Calvario (Chapel of the Calvary), which is also known as the Chapel of the Cross or Chapel of the Holy Cross. Its origins date back to the 18th century, when it was built to commemorate the preaching of a group of Franciscan missionaries who came to Queso from the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Gilet. Renovated and refurbished at different times, the current building is a reconstruction funded by private individuals. Through the openings in its four sides it is possible to see a cross inside and a statuette of the Virgen de los Desamparados (Our Lady of the Forsaken), which was a private donation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
