Laundry New (Bicorp)

Bicorp

Laundry New (Bicorp)

Formerly, we found the laundry at the entrance of the town. It was rebuilt in the place where it is currently located to reduce its size and to be able to build the walk that runs along the riverbed until it ends at the playground, called “Paseo del Albaricoquero”.
These laundries formerly functioned as an element of social cohesion, since it was the meeting place for the women, where while they washed their clothes, they discussed any event that occurred at the village. This tradition has survived to this day, as laundries are places where young people gather to spend some time together and tell their stories. It is commonly called Lavadero Nuevo (New laundry/washhouse) by Bicorp’s residents.
The water in this laundry came from the “Antonazo” fountain and served both the laundry room, where clothes were washed, and the drinking-trough used for the horses, which still remains nowadays.
