Jahrhundert ruht auf einem Berghang am h\u00f6her liegenden Teil des Ortes und \u00fcberschaut den gleichnamigen Platz. An dieser Stelle stand im Mittelalter eine Moschee, die man im Jahr 1521 als Kirche weihte und 1535 zum Pfarrhaus der Morisken erkl\u00e4rte. Bei seinem Besuch im Jahr 1606 ordnete der Erzbischof und Patriarch Juan de Ribera an, dieses Geb\u00e4ude durch ein bescheidenes Gotteshaus zu ersetzen, das allerdings sp\u00e4ter, n\u00e4mlich im 18. Jahrhundert, zu klein wurde, um alle Gl\u00e4ubigen aufzunehmen. So erbaute man von 1746 bis 1756 die heutige Barock-Kirche und verzierte sie mit Rokoko-Motiven.<\/p>\n<p>Es handelt sich um ein einschiffiges Geb\u00e4ude mit Grundriss in Form eines lateinischen Kreuzes mit einer nicht herausragenden Vierung, gedeckt von einer Kuppel auf Bogenzwickeln. Zwischen den Strebewerken des Hauptschiffes \u00fcberspannen H\u00e4ngekuppeln die Seitenkapellen. Ein farblich harmonischer Innenraum mit Gesimsen, Zierleisten und korinthischen Kapitellen an den Pfeilern und die gegen das Wei\u00df hervorgehobenen Graut\u00f6ne unterstreichen den valenzianischen barocken Klassizismus dieses schlichten geistlichen Bauwerks. Die glatt verputzten Pfeiler der Seitenkapellen setzen sich im Tonnengew\u00f6lbe fort und unterteilen es in Abschnitte. Seitliche L\u00fcnettenfenster lassen Licht ins Gew\u00f6lbe eintreten. Das Rocaille-Muschelwerk an den Spitzen dieser Fenster, die Einfassungen von T\u00fcren und Fenstern, die Holzarbeiten an den Sakristei-T\u00fcren und der Kircheneingang sind Zugest\u00e4ndnisse an den Rokoko-Stil, der um 1750 in Mode war. Im Presbyterium (Altarraum) befand sich ein h\u00f6lzerner barocker Altaraufsatz, der aber 1936 zerst\u00f6rt wurde, worauf man 1940 eine Nachbildung erstellte.<\/p>\n<p>Zwei von Zinnen gekr\u00f6nte toskanische S\u00e4ulen flankieren den Treppenaufgang zur Hauptfassade des Gotteshauses. Au\u00dfer dem Portal in der Fassadenmitte, das mit seinen Rocaille-Reliefs und schlanken S\u00e4ulen an einen Rokoko-Altaraufsatz erinnert, gibt eine Art Kragstein das Abschlussdatum der Bauarbeiten wieder. In einer Mauernische ist die Virgen de la Asunci\u00f3n (Jungfrau der Himmelfahrt) zu sehen. \u00dcber der Jungfrau l\u00e4sst ein von Rocaille-Motiven umrahmtes Fenster das Tageslicht in den Innenraum. Neben der Hauptfassade erhebt sich ein moderner Glockenturm (aus den 1930er Jahren) mit dem runden Zifferblatt der Uhr und einer Dachlaterne mit vielfarbigen Trencad\u00eds-Keramiken. Au\u00dferdem besitzt die Kirche einen Seiteneingang zur Calle de San Antonio und zur Plaza de los Regantes, dem Platz der Bew\u00e4sserungs-Nutzer, wo man die Zeitpl\u00e4ne der Wasserversorgung der G\u00e4rten erstellt. Eine Barockt\u00fcr verziert den seitlichen Eingang. Eine Art Kragstein mit einer Darstellung der f\u00fcnf Wunden Christi und Pflanzenmotiven unterbricht ihre gekr\u00fcmmten Frontlinien, beidseitig erg\u00e4nzt durch zwei kr\u00f6nende Kugeln im Herrera-Stil der Sp\u00e4trenaissance.<\/p>\n<p>Der Altarraum beherbergt eine sehenswerte Orgel und ist mit Fresken aus dem 18. Jahrhundert geschm\u00fcckt. An beiden Seiten des Altarraums befinden sich die Kommunionkapelle mit der Jungfrau Pur\u00edsima de Ponsoda und die Sakristei. \u00dcber dem Hauptaltar thront die Virgen de la Asunci\u00f3n, (Jungfrau der Himmelfahrt), ein Werk des Bildhauers Josep-Maria Bayarri. An ihrer Rechten ist der Heilige Franziskus und zur Linken ist der Heilige Gregor (Gregorio Magno, der Ortspatron, in einem Werk von P. Sales) zu sehen. Eine ovale \u00d6lmalerei der Dreifaltigkeit beim Kr\u00f6nen der Jungfrau aus dem 18. Jahrhundert schm\u00fcckt die Decke. An den Zwickeln der Kuppel sind Fresken aus derselben Epoche mit den vier Evangelisten zu sehen. Von besonderem Interesse ist der barocke hintere Bereich des Sanktuariums mit der Kuppel auf Zwickeln. Neben dem Saal \u00fcber der Sakristei befindet sich dort das Museum der geistlichen Kunst. An diesem Ort findet der Besucher vielfarbige Schnitzereien, M\u00f6belst\u00fccke, \u00d6lgem\u00e4lde auf Leinwand, Messgew\u00e4nder und goldschmiedenen Kirchenschmuck aus dem 17. bis 19. Jahrhundert. Au\u00dferdem gibt es ein russisches Bildnis aus dem 18. Jahrhundert und alte, k\u00fcnstlerisch interessante Fotos zu bestaunen.
